Sleep

Woken to a darkened room

The bed is warm

But only half full

She is gone, but from beyond

I hear her tears as they fall.

I go to her with words of calm

And around her shoulders place my arm

She nestles close, I feel her skin -

Cold in the night against my warmth.

We sit, she talks - until it's gone,

The pain within she's carried so long.

In the dark she voices thoughts,

Worries and dreams that now have passed.

She sleeps and on her features play

No more worries - no hurt to bar sleep's way.

I hold her tight as sleep claims me.

Later, we two wake - together to start the day.
