Ah, for the kiss of laudanum
Its smooth caress to ease the mind -
Or the gentle touch of absinthe
Which makes the heart grow fonder.
It is the Earth's own gift, these
Innocent plants distilled as juice
That we may use to see as we please
And remove life's troubles of Life itself.
For all the Greats, I say Byron and Shelley,
Coleridge and Keats and all the others
When questioned on their inspirations,
Answer’d; 'seeds of a flower from orient nations'.
So it can be said; 'tis plain to see
That drinking the wine of the poppy seed
Provokes the soul and creates great literary
Wonders -
