The Kiss

Ah, for the kiss of laudanum

Its smooth caress to ease the mind -

Or the gentle touch of absinthe

Which makes the heart grow fonder.

It is the Earth's own gift, these

Innocent plants distilled as juice

That we may use to see as we please

And remove life's troubles of Life itself.

For all the Greats, I say Byron and Shelley,

Coleridge and Keats and all the others

When questioned on their inspirations,

Answer’d; 'seeds of a flower from orient nations'.

So it can be said; 'tis plain to see

That drinking the wine of the poppy seed

Provokes the soul and creates great literary

Wonders - available to those whose mind is free!'
